The Bronx Council for Environmental Quality is pleased to invite you to the 9th Water Conference at its Annual Membership Meeting on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm at Manhattan College, Leo Engineering Building, 3825 Corlear Avenue @ West 238th Street, Bronx, NY (#1 train or Bx9 to W238th Street).
The Harlem River Working Group formed to work to restore, reconnect, recreate; and reinvigorate in-the-water recreational, health and commercial activities. Our goal is to create a permanent structure, something like the Bronx River Alliance, for the Harlem River.
This year’s conference will focus on “Examining Harlem River Water Quality: Imputs, Effects and Solutions”:
Map places of interest along the river’s edge
Advocate for sensitive area status for the Harlem and Bronx Rivers
Review the river’s past
Examine the river’s future
Discuss the State of the Sewers.
Breakout groups will organize around interactive google mapping, future urban plans in CB 7; and grassroots designed Public Participation Plans for Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) and Stormwater. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Sponsors include: Borough President Ruben Diaz; New York City Soil and Water Conservation District; Partnerships for Parks, Con Edison, Manhattan College, National Parks Service, Friends of Brook Park, Urban Divers Ecology Center and Highbridge Community Life Center.
