Featured Event: City of Water Screenings

City of Water

MWA and the Municipal Art Society of New York are proud to announce 2008 screenings of our new documentary film about the future of New York's waterfront, City of Water.

Two years in the making, City of Water explores the aspirations of public officials, environmentalists, academics, community activists, recreational boaters and everyday New Yorkers for a diverse, vibrant waterfront at a time when the shoreline is changing faster than at any other time in New York's history. The film features interviews with former Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff, Representative Nydia Velazquez, MacArthur Prize winner Majora Carter, author Phillip Lopate, Sandy Hook Pilots Captain Andrew McGovern and many others, and includes footage from Jamaica Bay, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and many other places on the waterfront.

We hope to see you at one of the screenings!

Parks Advocacy Day

9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Sponsored By: New Yorkers for Parks

Location: New York County Lawyers’ Association, 14 Vesey Street between Church & Broadway

Tell council members and other park advocates about the issues affecting the parks and people in your community. Also, learn best practices to promote and raise awareness about parks in all formats of the media: print, television, radio, and Internet.

In 2007, more than 200 New Yorkers spoke up at Parks Advocacy day. The good news is that, following the event, the Parks Department received a $46 million increase to their budget! Specifically, we helped win $5.2 million for out of school programs, $2 million for the Playground Associates program, and $1.5 million for eradication of the Asian long-horned beetle. On May 14th, we have another opportunity to ensure that our open spaces are greener, cleaner and safer.

City of Water Screening

7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Sponsored By: Gallery RIVAA

Locations: Gallery RIVAA, 527 Main Street, Roosevelt Island

Directions: Roosevelt Island Tram or F Train to Roosevelt Island. Connect to Red Bus.

Come see MWA and MAS' documentary about the future of the waterfront in New York and New Jersey! Dessert and coffee.
